Growth and Improvement

Home care is a continuously growing industry. As the years continue to pass, our older family members continue to age. This means, that every year more and more people may need home care services to support them through their day-to-day lives.

In Scotland, the number of people receiving care increased by 3% from 2021 to 2023, and that number is likely to grow. As such, the care industry has begun to change, focusing on meeting people’s individual needs as opposed to providing broader, generic care. This marks a change in many different home care sectors and fields.

Personalising Care

Home care has become more personalised through several key changes. Individualised care plans are now tailored to each person’s specific needs and preferences.

The Self-Directed Support model, enacted in law in 2013, allowed people to choose their providers and manage their budgets. This gives them greater control over their services.

Additionally, this approach addresses not just physical health but emotional and social well-being. Allowing for comprehensive care that enhances overall quality of life.

At myCare, we work with you to ensure your care plan is tailored to your unique needs. We want to build your loved one’s confidence and independence, letting their voice be heard.

Policy Changes and Regulations

There have been many different policy changes made over the last few years to improve home care nationwide.

For instance, in 2016 the Scottish Government combined health and social care into one system with legislation. Doing so helped them to consolidate care services and ensure responsive care is provided to local communities.

Similarly, the Carers Act 2016, has made it easier to identify unpaid carers and help them receive the support they need. In Autumn 2024, a new carer support payment is planned to roll out. This would help carers receive a small allotment of money per week, to support them.

Care regulations are constantly being updated to reflect the needs of the public. We work so that all our myCare services exceed the standards set. Likewise, we keep track of policy and support changes, so we can better guide you to get the support you need.

Care Worker Training

As care needs have become more personal, the services care workers provide have also become more complex and varied. This is why care workers must undergo in-depth training to better accommodate these unique needs.

At myCare, our care workers undergo extensive training and an in-depth induction program so we can ensure they have the right skills. With in-house programs, they can receive Scottish Vocational Qualifications levels 2 and 3.

Likewise, we encourage many of our team members to pursue Scottish Social Services Council badges. These recognise achievements and a continued effort to learn more in the social services industry.

How Technology Has Impacted Care

Technology has transformed the home care industry by improving both efficiency and quality of care. Remote monitoring systems enable real-time tracking of vital signs and health metrics, allowing caregivers to promptly address any changes in a patient’s condition.

Telehealth platforms facilitate virtual consultations, making healthcare more accessible and reducing the need for travel. Advanced scheduling and communication tools enhance coordination between caregivers, patients, and families, ensuring that care is well-organised and responsive.

Every advancement in the care industry is worth considering and implementing. We stay abreast of technological changes so that you and your loved one can benefit from improved systems and care.
