About Our Home Care Training And Induction Process

We are an accredited Scottish Qualifications Authority centre to deliver SVQ 2 and SVQ 3 qualifications in social care to our staff teams.

Our Care and Support Worker induction is a two-day course that is designed to take inductees through all the relevant aspects of their new role.

Day 1

Day 1 covers a wide range of topics, including an introduction to the role of a care worker, the regulations that are in place for care workers, the principles of person-centred care and outcomes, and practical skills such as assisting with continence care, medication, and the theory around moving and handling.

Day 2

Day 2 consists of a practical moving and handling session, and then the rest of the day will consist of scenario training. This is done using the recording app, PASS, which contains all relevant information about service users, their visits and care needs. The trainer will talk inductees through how to use the app, and then create scenarios that the inductees will work through together to ensure that safe care is delivered to the service user. These scenarios are designed to improve practical skills and give inductees that are new to the care sector the confidence that they will be able to deal with any difficulties that their new role has in store for them.

Shadow Shifts

After the two-day induction, inductees will have at least three shadow shifts, where they will spend their shift with a Supervisor or Enhanced Carer and learn the ropes from them. After this, when they are feeling ready, they are prepared to start their role as a Care and Support Worker!
